When the U.S. Army liquidated their K5 Blazer/CUCVs and C/Ks, lots of small law enforcement departments bought them......... and still have them in service to this day.

It shows that simplicity, and good craftsmanship pays off, would like to see the current Ford Explorer 30 years in service

Ha! That’s a good joke..... Because it’ll never happen. I think it’s a combination of durability, reliability, simplicity and good design that have kept those things running.

Off hand, I know like two or three departments that still are using the K5 actively. One of them used to be only K5s up until 2009 or so when they started buying sedans.

Neat!

Fun Fact: Silverado wasn’t a model name until the GMT800 in M.Y. ‘99. It was merely the name of a trim level, along with trims such as Cheyenne, Scottsdale, and Custom Deluxe.

Corrected, it’s just so natural calling them Silverados.

I drove those and worked on them in the Army in the 80s. They drove very nicely and were very comfortable and dependable. I can’t think of a time we ever lost an engine or transmission.

That’s pretty awesome!

From my understanding, there’s still a few of them left in Military service. Govdeals has a couple of them from time to time.

Awesome! How does he like it?

Neighbor of mine used to have a drab green ‘Burban. Not sure of the history of it, but it was a pretty awesome truck.

I was sort of shocked to see that the one on the Wiki post is an ‘84 model. 30 years is a long time... I was serving with the Hum-Vee was first fielded. I knew a wheeled vehicle mechanic who jumped one of those off of a loading dock.
